What Wondrous Love: Lent 2018
The hymn writer upon reflecting on Matthew’s Passion asks, “What wondrous love is this, O my Soul?... What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss, to lay aside his crown for my soul...to lay aside his crown for my soul?..” This hymn is one of haunting beauty and draws us into the mystery of God. It is a wondrous love that calls us and embraces us. A wondrous love that inspires us a strengthens us to discern and then follow God’s call. This Lenten season, take a walk with Matthew as he reveals Jesus’ wondrous loving journey to the cross. Jesus’ suffering love that is misunderstood, rejected, discounted, despised, hated and eventually murdered. All this by people who, all along, were the objects of his love. I pray that we may embrace this love anew as we walk with Jesus at each stage of his journey to the cross. May his love inspire us and strengthen us as we continue to discern and follow God’s call.
