Attributes of God: Steadfast

Sermon & Scripture: Run the Race (Hebrews 12:1-13)

Summary: There will be many races this coming year.  We Christians run the greatest race of all, which is set before us.  We are to run with our eyes fixed on Jesus who himself ran his race perfectly and who gives energy, knowledge and revelation.  He also provides other runners to run the race alongside of us.  The race itself is life.  We are here for a purpose since God himself placed our lives in this race. Another year of challenges will call for endurance and perseverance because life is not a 100-meter dash.  It is a long-winded, potentially agonizing marathon.  Marathon running requires strict discipline and the stripping down to essentials. Similarly, we need to stay disciplined and keep our focus with our eyes on Christ.  We also need the support of those who have run the race before us.    Worldly pursuits easily entangle and sin weighs us down, compromising our ability to run the race well. However, with God as our coach and fellow believers as our teammates we can run the race well.
