Philippians 1:1-11

The Joy of Being in a Good Church

Bill Hybels of Willow Creek Church in Chicago once said, “There is nothing in the world like the local church when it is working well”.  The Philippian congregation was not without issues, but the Apostle Paul expresses great joy in his experience of this congregation.  His joy was rooted in shared memories of their partnership in ministry, and of their great concern for his welfare.  However, the foundation of his joy in them was that they shared God’s grace with him.  Because this congregation stands on the foundation of God’s grace through Jesus Christ, Paul has no doubt that God is still at work among them, and that God will continue to work among them long after Paul’s death.
