Weekly Link

THIS SUNDAY AT BFCRC:  We welcome back Ian Shugart who will be opening Hebrews 11 for us and beginning a series of messages on ‘The Life of Faith’.   This week’s message will focus on the first three verses where we find the clear Biblical definition of faith.  How’s your faith?  How would you respond if someone asked you to explain ‘faith’ to them?  Listen ... and learn.

NEXT WEEK:  We look forward to the return of Pastor Ron Kok from Living Hope Community Church.

And now a few words from your Deacons ………………………

Measuring Success in Management

What is your measure of success: your bank account, status, popularity, or the toys and dainties of life?  A rich young ruler, who had it all, approached Jesus and wanted to make sure he would have heaven too.  But Jesus said, “…Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.  Then come follow me.” (Luke 18:22).  Real success isn’t based on the earthly – “where moth and rust can destroy, and where thieves can break in and steal.” (Matt. 6:19b).  How am I managing all of God’s gifts to me in terms of his Kingdom?

Small Group Kick-OffOct 16th
A new season of Small Groups is on its way and we are looking forward to what the Lord will bring in the way of people and material.  We would like to have our kick off for the year on Sunday October 16 in the evening.  At that time we will share some new study ideas as well as old ones that have been done by other groups.  This coming Sunday Oct 2 is a designated small group night and we would like to encourage existing Small groups to meet together and discuss ideas and possible changes for the coming year.  Some of you may be ready to move on to a new group, some groups may be willing to accept new participants and we may need to start some brand new groups.

If you are new to the church or haven't been part of a Small Group in the past but would like to join a group please contact
Charley DeSchiffart @ cdeschiffart@rogers.com or 613-592-3078 or
Marc Lindell@ Marclindell@gmail.com or 613-794-9220 c

Sunday the 16th is the perfect time to find out what this ministry is all about and what studies will be available to you.  There will be material to browse and sign up sheets for new groups being offered.  Some groups will be offered during theweek as well so there is something for everyone.

See you Sunday October 16th 6:30- 8:00.  As always Coffee, Tea and goodies will be served.

GEMS Annual Luncheon and Bake Sale is coming up again! All are invited to a time of fellowship while supporting the GEMS group and their Sister Club in Zambia. There will be hot and cold drinks, soup and buns, hot dogs, desserts and, of course, lots of baked goodies - some of which can also be ordered for future dates. And being the season of pumpkins, the GEMS have been working hard on decorating and painting pumpkins which will be on display. The Luncheon and Bake Sale will be held at the Church on Saturday, October 29th, from 10:00 till 2:00pm.  Food donations are welcome and can be dropped off at the Church in the evening on Friday the 28th.

Calling Committee: Since our last announcement the Calling Committee has met a number of times with our primary focus being the creation of our Church Profile. The CRC denomination has a ministry called the Office of Pastor-Church Relations (PCR). The PCR provides a Church Profile template to churches in need of pastors and a Pastor Profile to pastors that would be willing to take a call to a church. The PCR will review our Church Profile and see if there are any Pastors that would be a good match. Our Church Profile is now complete and needs final sign off by Council and by a Classis appointed Church Counselor. Our Classis (a group of local churches) meets within the next few weeks so we hope we will have an official Church Counselor at that time. It is the intent of the Calling Committee to provide a "Reader's Digest" version of the Church Profile to the congregation for the fall congregational meeting but feel free to discuss things with a Calling Committee member as well.

When we aren't talking about the profile, we are discussing names that have been submitted to us. So far we have discussed and researched 23 potential candidates. Currently the process involves us assigning each candidate to one or two committee members for them to research. Research involves searches on line, reading or listening to sermons, and calling contacts regarding the candidates, and then summarizing that information for the next meeting. We appreciate all the names that have been presented so far and we are still open to any other names you come across.

As we are close to the transitioning point from research and prep work to starting to reach out to candidates, we ask that you pray not only for us as we begin this next step, but for the candidates that we will be reaching out to as well.

Thank-you: Bernie Berghout, Charley De Schiffart, Bart Geleynse, Marc Lindell, Greta Luimes, Allison Schenk, Matt Verbrugge
